July 28-29, 2007 PCA Rocky Mountain Region Drivers Education Event.

More than 50 Porsches participated in this two day DE running in four groups, separated by driver's skill and experience level, we ran three 25 minute run groups on Saturday and two 20 minute run groups on Sunday, which were followed by timed runs for those who chose to stay. The weather cooperated and was a “cool” low 90's on this shade-less course.

La Junta Raceway, 200 miles from Denver, is a 1.2-mile, 7-turn, flat track of concrete and asphalt, built on an old WWI airfield in this agricultural community of 7500 people.

Among those running in the first group were three RSA's driven by David R (former Chief Driving Instructor of RMR) in his Midnight Blue Metallic RSA; Roger Z, a sports car racer for many years who now drives a Guard Red RSA; and David B who has been developing his track skills at RMR DE events for the past four years since he acquired his black RSA in 2003.

Since 2005 PCA's Rocky Mountain Region (which celebrates its 50th year in 2008) has had to largely limit its competitive driving events to La Junta and Pueblo raceways due to the closing of both its “home track“ Second Creek Raceway, and the other track nearby Continental Divide Raceway (CDR/Mead).

Plans are underway to open a new home track, owned by the Colorado Amateur Motorsports Association, LLC (CAMA) called High Plains Raceway, it is located near Beyers, Colorado roughly 60 miles east of Denver. Built on a small portion of a 460 acre parcel, this will be a fabulous, 2.5 mile, 15 turn venue that is scheduled to open in late 2008 or early 2009 and will serve the sports car community for many years to come.

I ask RS America owners everywhere to please bear the following in mind ....if you happen to be at an event - any event - tour, autocross, rally, DE, swapmeet whatever, and a group of RSA's show up, all you have to do is

• get the RSA owners together
  (that's the hard part - you may need the announcer to tell event attendees that there will be an RS America photo op at a given time)
• grab a camera (doesn't matter whose it is)
• set it on the highest resolution possible
• fire off some shots

... and then e-mail 'em to me ........ please.
